Reindeer overdose

I’ve thought a lot about reindeer lately.
It started with an exciting new project at work involving said animal. The project hasn’t officially started yet but I already have a whole herd running around in my head, waving their antlers around and pooping in the corners and whatnot…

As a result, I have an increasing number of reindeer sketches piling up on my desk.

And as a result of that I had to go play in Photoshop.

Before I knew it I had a new layout and even though it’s not really December yet I couldn’t wait, as you can see I uploaded it right away! :D

Imaginary Karin - reindeer drawing

This is the actual reindeer in the header. I just scanned it and darkened it to a silhouette.

Imaginary Karin - reindeer sketch

Some of my sketches.

Where I grew up there are reindeer everywhere (and I mean everywhere!) at certain times of the year. And they can be quite a pain in the ass, to be honest.

In Sweden all reindeer are owned by the Sami people. The animals roam free in the woods like wild animals, but the Sami keep an eye on them and keep track of where they are. As a result, the reindeer are half-tame. They don’t approach people and will run if you try to approach them, but they’re not THAT afraid. They have no problem coming right up to your house to eat from the flower bed and vegetable patch.

There’s also no guarantee they’ll move for cars and such. Sometimes it doesn’t matter how much you honk or rush the engine, they just stand there… I got stuck for almost 40 min(!) behind a reindeer herd once. It was about 10 animals and instead of getting off the road and letting me pass they decided to start trotting along the road! 8O And not very fast either I might add. The snow was really deep so I guess they found it much more convenient staying on the road. I’ve never in my life been more tempted to kill an animal.

On the other hand, they’re one of the most beautiful animals in Sweden if you ask me.
An adult bull in winter coat with fully grown antlers running through the snow is a sight. Not to mention the purely white ones. No matter how stupid and useless I sometimes find them I can’t deny that they do make an attractive addition to the fauna. Truth is I’d probably miss them if they disappeared.

Ok, enough talk about reindeer. Can’t imagine anyone caring but me so I’ll shut up now. :P

Couple years ago me and my dad drove to Lapland to get a puppy and omg with those reindeers. They are cute but when whole herd just hangs on the road, it’s not fun.

Anyway your new layout looks really nice. :D

I really like your reindeer sketches, especially the one that you have used on your layout. :D I don’t think I’ve ever seen a reindeer in real life that I know of… Probably in a zoo but I don’t recall any. :|

I am so bookmarking this website! I don’t have time to look through it but I’ve seen a couple designs and it’s good!

Oh! Another stunning layout. You are just over flowing with talent. I love this. Alot. :)

I don’t see a lot of reindeer (i live on an island), but we have a lot of tiny deer! They’re so beautiful. I love nature. :)

I guess I love a lot of things!

Geeze, you’re unbelievably good at drawing! I’m jealous!

Also,I went to that wikipedia page and found that whole article pretty interesting. You don’t hear about the indigenous people of European countries ever…

I love the drawings and the new layout! I kind of wish we had reindeer here because I think they’re such pretty, majestic-looking creatures, but I guess if they were blocking the roads constantly I wouldn’t think that as much anymore. :P

We don’t reindeer here, just regular deer, but they are a major hazard this time of year for driving. Sometimes I think they are just suicidal because they jump out in front of you out of the dark. 8O

They ARE beautiful creatures and sometimes I find myself wishing I had a pair of antlers on my head because I think it looks wicked.

And I love your new layout! I think I end up complimenting your layouts every time I visit.

Reindeer are awesome and I love your layout :)
I recently worked on a project for my graphic design class and I used reindeer images for my design! ;)

I love your art so much! Fantastic layout as usual, so pretty!

Reindeer are brilliant, I’d love to have them here in the UK, I doubt they would enjoy it though. Reindeer sort of sum up that sort of traditional magical Christmas, rather than the tacky one that I experience XD

You’re extremely talented, those are really nice sketches! :) I’m not a fan of reindeers but I love how you drew them! I’ve never seen a real-life reindeer though. We don’t have any here in our country, unfortunately.

Awww, they’re cute. Like fuzzy unicorn-y horses!
